FOOD FOR WORK / FOOD SECURITY PROJECT FOR 6,700 FAMILIES IN SOUTHERN BANGLADESH
In May 2015, we visited a farmers group and the following are excerpts from that visit….
“The women are learning how to make compost and use compost in home gardens. They are growing vegetables”.
“The farmers have learned from demonstration plots and are growing more and different kinds of vegetables and have also planted some nuts and lentils. Before the project they did not know about these different varieties and had only enough water for one crop per year. Now they are cultivating two or three crops in a year.”
“This is the best production we have had in this area since the liberation war” said one farmer....”Because of water and improved seed the production has increased 2 to 4 times what it was”.
Another farmer said, “We used the first money to pay back loans to the money lenders and now we are using the money for household needs”.
