ST. VINCENT ISLAND VOLCANO
The La Soufrière volcano on the island of St. Vincent in the Caribbean erupted last Friday, blanketing the island in a layer of white-coloured dust and ash. Some 16,000 to 20,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes in the northern part of the island where the volcano is erupting.
Since then further eruptions have led emergency officials to describe the landscape as a 'battle zone'.
Falling ash and pyroclastic flows have destroyed crops and contaminated water reservoirs. There is an acute shortage of clean drinking water as people crowd into shelters.
Scientists warn that eruptions could continue for days or even weeks.
There are several churches of the Nazarene on the island and they are responding with food and non-food items supporting the shelters that have been set up for those who have evacuated. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries is assisting with funds.

Thank you for your gifts of compassion for those in need during these perilous times.
Jesus helped people where there was need, and when there was need.
NCM Canada wants to be ready to help when the need arises as well. Whether it is devestation as the result of a natural disaster, or the fall out from war - we want to be ready to go and provide the necessary help.
This is one of the reasons why we are so grateful for supporters who provide regular, monthly support. By having funds come in on each month, we are able to have a better idea of how much we will have to work with, should an emergency occur.
NCM Canada partners with other organizations to provide the appropriate response based on the situation.
Each gift will be used as designated except where any given need has been fully met or in the case when the specified project(s) cannot be reasonably carried out, then the donor agrees that the designated gift may be used where it is needed most.
