A Powerful Earthquake Strikes Colombia
On August 10, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, with its epicentre near San José del Palmar, Chocó.
Communities across several departments have been affected, with reports of loss of life, injuries, displaced families, and significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
As emergency teams continue to reach affected communities, assessments are ongoing and the full extent of the impact continues to develop.
Nazarene Churches & Communities Affected
Nazarene churches, families, and communities are among those affected by the earthquake.
Church buildings and homes have sustained significant damage, leaving some families unable to safely return home. Church and district leaders continue to assess the needs of congregations and their surrounding communities as more information becomes available.
The Church Is Responding
Local Nazarene churches are already mobilizing to serve their neighbours with compassion.

Congregations are helping provide food and practical assistance, mobilizing volunteers, collecting donated supplies, and finding ways to support communities impacted by the earthquake.

Nazarene Compassionate Ministries leaders are working alongside district leaders, pastors, and local churches to assess needs and coordinate an organized response.
​
In the midst of uncertainty and loss, the Church continues to be present—sharing the compassion, love, and hope of Christ.
How Canadians Can Help
Canadians can support the Colombia Earthquake Response through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Canada.
Funds designated to this response will support the compassionate response being coordinated through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries as local churches and leaders respond to needs on the ground.
